BLEM is committed to minimizing any undesirable impacts of mining on the surrounding environment and to return all mined land to a productive and useful state. Post mining rehabilitation is undertaken to meet the Government’s environmental standards. Since 2008, several Environment and Safety operating procedures have been implemented at AKT’s Tuhup mine, including:

• Environmental Monitoring Procedures
• Environmental Emergency Plan
• Oil Spill Contingency Plan
• Chemical Spill Contingency Plan

Environmental management at AKT follows the required national environmental standards, including:

• AMDAL (Environmental Impact Analysis)
• RKL (Environmental Management Plan)
• RPL (Environmental Monitoring Plan)

Independent reviews and evaluations comparing AKT'S environmental management with World Bank banchmarks are requrally undertaken and action plans formulated to address any gaps.
